Vortex Lamp

On March 2008, we got another design “homework” on my university. They wanted a nightstand, but I found it too boring. Instead I’ve made a little fire tornado, perfect for Motocross or Rally races and Metal Concerts. I will not follow my tradition of “step by step” instructions, because the design is extremely simple.

As you can see, the basic parts are the fan, the D-shaped duct and a place to burn the fuel. Professional versions of this lamp are made of GLASS! ridiculously expensive. A simple solution is to use a perforated metal sheet instead (credits for my best friend FELA).

Yeah I know, the thing is very ugly (we had no time and no soldering skills for anything better). But the working principle is clear as water, so now you can make your own improved design.
